What is the Ethereum blockchain
The Ethereum blockchain is a decentralized, open-source blockchain platform that enables the creation and deployment of smart contracts and decentralized applications (dapps). It was initially proposed in 2013 by Vitalik Buterin, and went live in July 2015. Ethereum is different from Bitcoin in that it was designed to be more than just a digital currency, but a platform for decentralized applications that runs on a global, peer-to-peer network. The Ethereum blockchain allows developers to build decentralized applications that can automate and enforce the execution of complex transactions and agreements. The platform is powered by Ether (ETH), its native cryptocurrency, which is used to pay for transaction fees and computational services on the network.
